The resurgence in demand for quality Beef Shorthorn cattle continued at the club sale in Ballymena Mart on Friday 33rd October 2015, with a peak price of 1,850gns for the show Champion, Castlemount Hero, an April 2014 born bull, put forward by Duncan McSowell, Newtownards.
This bull was sired by the AI sire, Cairnsmore Thrasher out of the homebred cow Castlemount Barley Zabrina and was purchased by John Gill, Killinchy, Co Down.
The Reserve Champion, a January 2015 born bull calf, Jupiter of Ballyvaddy, put forward by T & K Madden, Glenarm, was sired by the home bred cow, Ballyvaddy Tessa Moss Rose D761 and was purchased for 1,250gns by Roger Gormley, Carrickmore.

D McDowell was delighted to see her reach a price of 1600gns to J Stewart, Cloughmills who went on to buy all four of the heifers which averaged 1,212gns.
The 15 commercial Shorthorns kicked off with a tremendous start when the first lot into the ring sold for £1350 setting a high precedent. Auctioneer Graham Loughery commented that “we had expected strong demand for the commercial section but trade was flying from the very first lot, we could have done with more commercial stock”. Roll on April next year!
