Balmoral venue for inaugural calf fair and beef expo on November 14

The Balmoral Showgrounds in Belfast is set to stage a multi-breed beef calf show and industry forum on Saturday 14th November.

N.I Beef Shorthorn Club Chairman, Tom McGuigan welcomed an enthusiastic gathering of members and friends to the Annual General Meeting which was held in the Ballinderry Inn Moira on Thursday 5th March 2015. Tom went on to thank the Secretary - Fiona McKeown, David Alexander - Treasurer and Karen Carson PRO Officer for all their hard work and support during the year adding also his gratitude to members who so ably promoted the breed both here in Northern Ireland and further afield.

Commercial Beef Shorthorns , shorthorn crosses and blue greys are a feature of the stock on this farm outside Ballycarry in Co. Antrim. Robert Patton farms, alongside his busy saddlery business , over 190 acres and has been using a Beef Shorthorn bull for more than 6 years. Robert likes a good shaped cow and not too big. He chooses Angus, limousines, Simmental cross cows which are suitable with decent sized frames and plenty of milk. Robert bought his first Beef Shorthorn bull in 2006 from James Porters Uppermill Herd and was quick to admit it was the right move for him with ease of management, calving and reduction in overhead costs and veterinary bills.

N.I Beef Shorthorn Club Chairman, Tom McGuigan welcomed a very enthusiastic gathering of members and friends to the Annual General Meeting which was held in the Ramble Inn, 263 Lisnevenagh Road Antrim on Tuesday 25th March 2014.
Club Secretary, Paddy McGuigan reflected on the events that the club had participated in within the last 12 months, highlighting breeders’ successes at both Balmoral and the National show at Castlewellan Show. Followed by Chairman Tom McGuigan, who congratulated members who so ably promote the breed at shows both in Northern Ireland and Stirling. He also gave a short presentation in the treasurer’s absence on the clubs accounts highlighting that 2013-2014 was another successful and healthy financial year.
